World Championship Medal Flair at Weltklasse Zürich 2026

Swiss athletics is currently experiencing a historic period of success – and Weltklasse Zürich 2026 will bring its biggest stars onto the grand stage. Several newly crowned Swiss medalists from the last two major international championships will thrill fans on August 26/27, 2026, bringing world championship flair to both the Letzigrund Stadium and Zurich Main Station.

Leading the way is Simon Ehammer (long jump), who is looking forward to competing at his home meeting. The newly crowned world champion and world record holder (in the indoor combined events) recently secured the gold medal, underlining his exceptional status in international athletics. Already last year, he caused a sensation by winning his second Wanda Diamond League Trophy at Weltklasse Zürich on Sechseläutenplatz. Now he returns to the big stage at Letzigrund Stadium – in front of a home crowd and as one of the top favorites.

Also confirmed is Audrey Werro (800 meters), who has impressively demonstrated her class. With her silver medal at the Indoor World Championships in Toruń, the young athlete from Fribourg confirmed her place among the world’s elite. Her victory at Weltklasse Zürich last year – where she electrified the stadium with a stunning performance – remains fresh in many memories. She is once again one of Switzerland’s top hopes for 2026.

Angelica Moser (pole vault), an athlete from LC Zürich, completes the Swiss indoor medal trio. For years, she has impressed with consistency, mental strength, and the ability to perform at her best during major events. She will be in action already on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the opening of Weltklasse Zürich at Zurich Main Station, providing fans with an early highlight.

Another fan favorite has also been confirmed for Weltklasse Zürich 2026: Ditaji Kambundji (100 m hurdles). With her sensational performance last year, she crowned herself world champion and wrote another chapter in Swiss athletics history. Now, the likable and lightning-fast athlete from Bern returns to Letzigrund Stadium as a global title holder.

«Swiss athletes are the heart of Weltklasse Zürich and are at the center of our meeting. They are the key to the unique atmosphere in the sold-out stadium – providing them with this platform is a core part of our identity. At the same time, the currently exceptional level of Swiss athletics, highlighted by three medals at the most recent Indoor World Championships and Ditaji Kambundji’s world title in Tokyo, shows just how strong this generation is. We are therefore very pleased to announce four medalists from the last two World Championships today. Simon, Ditaji, Audrey, and Angelica are world-class athletes and great crowd favorites,» says Co-Meeting Director Andreas Hediger.

Weltklasse Zürich will take place on August 27, 2026, at the historic Letzigrund Stadium. The day before, Zurich Main Station will once again be transformed into a unique athletics stage – with the women’s pole vault featuring Angelica Moser.

Public ticket sales for Weltklasse Zürich will start on May 5, 2026. Experience shows that the 25,000 tickets for this major athletics event sell out very quickly.
