1500 children and teenagers had won a ticket for a special training session with the stars of Weltklasse Zürich. Yesterday, the young talents finally met with their illustrious coaches to practise their running, jumping and throwing skills at the Wiesacher sports ground in Regensdorf near Zurich and in 10 other Swiss cities and towns. Even the steady rain could not dampen their enthusiasm or ruin the happy atmosphere of the events.

Training with the stars: Great atmosphere at Weltklasse Zürich kids’ events – despite rainy weather

The young talents were fully concentrated when listening to their star’s tips. While triple world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce demonstrated some exercises, her colleague Kim Collins supported the kids with valuable advice: “Don’t look at the starter! Focus on the track, or you will get a slow start!” Heptathlist Linda Züblin coached young throwers who had to try and throw a ball through hoops. And triathlon Olympic champion Nicola Spirig and her group went on a run around the sports ground.

For most of the young athletes, the training was their first performance in front of a crowd and many cameras. Innumerable souvenir photos were taken. All in all, 1500 young athletes between 7 and 15 years of age got to meet with their idols for an inspiring, motivating training session. The event included a chat with the stars, autographs, refreshments, and small presents. The star coaches clearly enjoyed themselves, as well – and appreciated a helicopter ride back to the hotel.
