Noah Lyles confirmed for Weltklasse Zürich 2025

Fans at Zurich’s Letzigrund Stadium can look forward to a sprint spectacle of the highest order: Noah Lyles, Olympic champion from Paris 2024 and six-time world champion, will compete in the 200 meters at Weltklasse Zürich on August 28, 2025. The 28-year-old American sprinter has been granted an international Wild Card by the Wanda Diamond League for this event.

Noah Lyles is one of the brightest stars of today’s athletics scene. With his combination of explosive sprinting power, unmistakable charisma, and engaging personality, he captivates fans far beyond the world of track and field. His showmanship before and after races is just as legendary as his record-breaking times on the track.

Lyles is the reigning triple world champion and crowned himself Olympic champion in Paris 2024 over 100 meters; he also holds three additional world championship titles, including two over his signature distance, the 200 meters. In that very event, weakened by a Covid infection, he took bronze at the Olympic Games in Paris. At Weltklasse Zürich, he will once again face off against Letsile Tebogo, the Olympic champion over 200 meters, who is striving for something Lyles has already won several times: the Diamond Trophy.

Lyles’ personal best over 200 meters is 19.31 seconds – the third-fastest athlete in history. He has already made history in Zurich as well. Four of his five Diamond Trophies were won at Weltklasse Zürich (2022, 2019, 2018), most recently in 2022 over the 200-meter distance. Moreover, the sprint superstar remains unbeaten at Letzigrund Stadium. No wonder he is especially looking forward to returning to Zurich:

“With Weltklasse Zürich being the last race before World Championships I am looking to run something special.” – Noah Lyles

With Noah Lyles, another big name joins the illustrious list of superstars confirmed for Weltklasse Zürich 2025. For Andreas Hediger, Co-Meeting Director of Weltklasse Zürich, the commitment and the awarding of the international Wild Card are something special: “Noah Lyles is not only one of the best sprinters of all time, he is also a true crowd-puller. We therefore welcome the decision of the responsible bodies of the Wanda Diamond League to grant him the international Wild Card.”
