Athletics stars to compete in the heart of the city and close to fans
Shot put (men and women), high jump, long jump, and pole vault. These five events will be staged at the impressive temporary athletics arena on Sechseläutenplatz in August. The stars will perform at breathtaking levels and treat spectators to gripping competitions under the open sky and in front of a unique backdrop in the heart of the city on the Limmat river.
Virtuosos to showcase their skills in the art of shot put
Shot put requires athletes to combine pure physical strength, flawless technique, and momentum in quite an exceptional way. Whenever they step into the ring, shot in one hand, fully concentrated on the task ahead, the tension is palpable. Spectators on Sechseläutenplatz will experience the impressive skill of the biggest shot put stars from up close, and they will be part of some memorable moments. As in 2022, for instance, when US American Joe Kovac’s 23.23m landed him on the second spot in the all time top list.
Elegance and riveting clashes in the women’s high jump
Yaroslava Mahuchikh set a new world record (2.10m) during the 2024 Wanda Diamond League season, catapulting the women’s high jump into new spheres. Fans will find out whether she can repeat the feat of winning the most prestigious international meeting series again in the competition on Sechseläutenplatz.
Local hero Simon Ehammer to dare the world’s long jump elite
Instead of heights, Simon Ehammer and the world’s best long jumpers will be chasing far jumps. For the second time after 2021, a long jump pit will be installed on Sechseläutenplatz. A native of Appenzell and a crowd favourite, Switzerland’s decathlon star is determined to treat his home crowd to “Weltklasse” results – and to defeat his opponents in the process, just as he did in the 2023 Wanda Diamond League Final.
Pole vault men: Spectacle beyond the 6-metre mark
The world’s best pole vaulters will meet on Sechseläutenplatz for the first time. Watching them fly high will be stunning, and they will no doubt mesmerise the crowd. World record holder Mondo Duplantis and his colleagues have been successfully drawing the attention to their event recently, treating viewers and spectators to awe-inspiring performances at, quite literally, very high levels.
“Weltklasse Zürich on Sechseläutenplatz will be magnificent. We are looking forward to being back in the Zurich city centre and to making it possible for people to experience our sport from up close. As always, we will do our utmost to have an all-star cast in all events,” says Andreas Hediger, Co-Meeting Director of Weltklasse Zürich.
Representing this year’s Wanda Diamond League Final, Weltklasse Zürich 2025 will be held on 27 and 28 August. The competitions conclude the most prestigious international series of athletics meetings. Five events, including the men’s and women’s shot put, the women’s high jump, and the men’s pole vault and long jump, will be held on Sechseläutenplatz. All other 27 events will be presented on 28 August at Letzigrund Stadium.
Tickets for Weltklasse Zürich at Letzigrund Stadium will be available starting 13 May, tickets for the event on Sechseläutenplatz will go on sale on 17 June.
