Once again, the world’s best athletes staged an exciting show at Weltklasse Zürich. There was more than one scramble at the finish line and in final attempts at Letzigrund Stadium. A number of Olympic and world champion felt the squeeze, and some world championship scores were successfully settled.

Twelve Olympic champions and twelve new world champions are set to compete at Letzigrund Stadium on Thursday, 31 August. 14 Wanda Diamond League events will be held, and just as many new Zurich Trophies will be awarded. And the popular 4x100m relay race will make a comeback and conclude the programme of events of Weltklasse Zürich 2023.

Sie gehörten den glücklichen Kindern, die unter den 3000 Interessierten ein Teilnahmerecht zugelost erhalten hatten. Für zahlreiche Kids dürfte das Training mit den Weltstars die Initialzündung sein, um mit Laufen, Springen oder Werfen anzufangen. Oder aber sie kamen ihren Vorbildern für einmal besonders nahe und nutzten diese Gelegenheit, um auf Autogramm- und Selfiejagd zu gehen. Die Stars erfüllten jeden Wunsch lächelnd und sorgten damit erst recht für Begeisterung. «As a child, I collected autographs myself and looked up to older athletes,» says Mujinga Kambundji, surrounded by a whole crowd of children. «For me, it's a privilege to pass something on to the next generation.» And what does Switzerland’s fastest woman give her young followers to take with them? «The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy what you do.» Whether sprinting, jumping or throwing.
