With the summer nearing, the world\u2019s athletics community is gearing up for the \u201cRoad to Weltklasse\u201d. The upcoming outdoor season will be filled with exciting national and international highlights: There are the national championships (which will be held at Letzigrund Stadium this year), world and European championships, and there are 13 Wanda Diamond League meetings. The global series will culminate in a two-day Final at Weltklasse Z\u00fcrich on 7 and 8 September.
It will be the second time that Weltklasse Z\u00fcrich will host all Wanda Diamond League final events \u2013 some of them in the city centre, others at Zurich\u2019s legendary Letzigrund Stadium. And once again, promoters will treat fans to a unique programme of events. The action on Sechsel\u00e4utenplatz will include the women\u2019s pole vault competition (long jumpers will compete at the stadium this time around). And the stars of the men\u2019s high jump, too, will be making their debut in the extraordinary setting on Lake Zurich.<\/p>\n
As in 2021, 5000m runners in both the women\u2019s and the men\u2019s race will compete on a temporary Conica track that leads them around the Opernhaus and the arena, which will again include a shot put circle, as both the men\u2019s and the women\u2019s final events will be held on Sechsel\u00e4utenplatz, as well.<\/p>\n
Another 26 spectacular final events will be underway at Letzigrund Stadium one day later. There will be duels and narrow wins on track and breathtaking performances on the infield and thus plenty of occasions to make the hearts of fans leap. Both stadium visitors and viewers at home no doubt still have fond memories of the show \u2013 and the encores \u2013 the pole vaulters put on last year, for instance. And who would want to miss the hurdles action, the awe-inspiring javelin throws, or the sprints, of course, which will feature local stars Mujinga Kambundji and Ajla Del Ponte?<\/p>\n
All competitions will be broadcast worldwide by producer SRG SSR.<\/p>\n
As the Wanda Diamond League confirmed last Friday, the two Chinese meetings of Shenzhen and Shanghai will have to be cancelled again due to the coronavirus pandemic. They will be replaced by a meeting in Poland. Today, the most prestigious international meeting series announced the hosts of its Finals for the editions after 2023, when the series will be concluded outside of Europe for the first time, at Eugene\u2019s Prefontaine Classic.<\/p>\n
Between 2024 and 2027 the two former co-hosts Brussels and Zurich will organise the Final in alternate years: The Allianz Memorial van Damme will host the event in 2024 and 2026 (on the occasion of the meeting\u2019s 50th anniversary), while Weltklasse Z\u00fcrich will serve as host again in 2025 and 2027. The decision was made by the Wanda Diamond League General Assembly.<\/p>\n

Stadium tickets for Weltklasse Z\u00fcrich 2022 will go on sale to the general public on 17 May. Many fans will be excited to hear that tickets for the stadium\u2019s most famous sector \u2013 the standing area \u2013 will be available again. Due to pandemic-related restrictions, there had been no standing area last year. In addition, families can buy ticket packages for seats in special family sectors.
