That Zurich would host the Diamond League finals was already announced earlier. The number of final events to be staged at Weltklasse Z\u00fcrich (there will be 32), however, is new. During this year\u2019s corona crisis, the series of athletics meetings all around the world took time to optimise some changes to its format that had already been envisaged. Thus, the Diamond League will not include 24 events, as was announced in 2020, but 32, as in previous years. This means that Weltklasse Z\u00fcrich will crown twice as many Diamond League champions than during its 2019 edition. In September 2021, the largest Swiss city will once again become the focus of international athletics.<\/p>\n
Weltklasse Z\u00fcrich will present the 32 final events at two different venues: On Zurich\u2019s famous Sechsel\u00e4utenplatz, fans will get to be close to the action, when the world\u2019s best athletes compete for the coveted diamond trophy on Wednesday, 8 September. The plans for a temporary synthetic track around the Opernhaus Z\u00fcrich and the infrastructure for field events had already been finalised in preparation for the 2020 edition. Promoters will benefit from their preparatory work next year, and they will be able to hold on to the idea of taking world-class athletics to the city centre. Zurich residents, as a result, will be experiencing a truly innovative event and enjoying probably seven Diamond League final events.<\/p>\n
As always, the events of Weltklasse Z\u00fcrich will be covered by the national TV channel.
