The world’s leading female pole vaulters to fly high again at Zurich Main Station

After an immensely successful event last year, the world’s leading pole vaulters will compete again at Weltklasse Zürich at Zurich Main Station on Wednesday, 23 August. Reigning Olympic champion Ekaterini Stefanidi (Greece), world champion Yarisley Silva (Cuba), as well as Switzerland’s national record holder Nicole Büchler and U20 world champion Angelica Moser all plan to fly high and treat spectators to another fascinating show.

Passersby and athletics fans will get close to some top-class pole vault action at Zurich Main Station on 23 August this year. Once again, the main hall of the busy railway station will provide an impressive backdrop for the prelude to the legendary Weltklasse Zürich meeting on the eve of the IAAF Diamond League final event at Letzigrund Stadium.

The Zurich promoters use the extraordinary venue to showcase pole vault – one of the sport’s most spectacular events. Local fans will be particularly excited as the entry list features two Swiss athletes who are able to compete with the world’s best athletes. After an injury, Nicole Büchler, national record holder and sixth at the Rio Olympics, made an impressive return to the stage with a win at the Stockholm IAAF Diamond League meeting earlier this month. And U23 world champion Angelica Moser seems to be determined to continue her stellar rise to pole vault fame: She cleared 4.55m recently, securing a ticket to the London world championships early on.

Olympic champion Ekaterini Stefanidi and current world champion Yarisley Silva have also both already signed up for the prestigious competition in Zurich.

Live TV coverage

SRF will broadcast Weltklasse Zürich at Zurich Main Station live for the second time. A few seats are still available at the temporary arena. However, spectators will also have the opportunity to watch the competition from a standing area (free admission).

Men to complete their Diamond Race at Letzigrund Stadium

One day later, on Thursday, 24 August, the best male pole vaulters gather for another pole vault showdown in Zurich. Their competition will be one of 16 high-profile IAAF Diamond League final events. 100,000 CHF will be awarded in prize money in each of them, a considerably higher amount than in previous years.
